This survey aims to give a systematic presentation of the work undertaken by my students and myself during these last twenty years, in the field of Numerical, or, more generally, Quantitative Analysis. Although the main aim of this survey is to assemble as an organized development the results and methods of our research, it seemed worthwhile also to report on previous theories and results of other Authors to provide a suitable framework for the problems which are considered here and to facilitate the understanding of the results achieved. For instance, our results on Eigenvalue Theory could escape proper evaluation were they not compared with the existing literature and discussed in the light of the fundamental theories developed by Ritz, Weyl, Courant, Weinstein, Carleman, Agmon, and others.
