Beyond the Post-modern Mind
註釋In Beyond the Post-Modern Mind, Houston Smith challenges the premises of our current Western ethos as a whole and points beyond to a new synthesis. Echoing the opening words of Dante's Divine Comedy, Professor Smith views our present age "as a dark wood, where the right road [is] wholly lost and gone." Less poetically, he would agree with John Dewey that the reigning characteristic of modernity is "despair of an integrated outlook," or with The Chronicles of Higher Education that it is "loss of faith in transcendence."
