1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane is not produced in, nor imported into, Canada. It enters the environment as a by-product in wastes generated during production of both vinyl chloride monomer and ethylene dichloride, in air emissions and leachates from waste disposal sites, and as a result of long-range atmospheric transport from other countries. This report provides a summary of information critical to its assessment as toxic, including its identity, properties, production, and uses; entry into the environment; exposure-related and effects-related information; and assessment of toxic in relation to the environment, the environment on which human life depends, and on human life or health. Also includes recommendations.
