註釋Memoirs of a Jew, born Józek Goldberg, who at a young age was interned with his three older sisters in the Warsaw ghetto, where he became a food smuggler. In 1942 two of his sisters were deported; the third insisted that Golan leave the ghetto just before the uprising, and he never saw her again. He wandered among forests and villages, sometimes working on farms, and joined a partisan group for a brief period. After the war he emigrated to Eretz Israel. All of his five siblings perished in the Holocaust.
