The Binge-purge Syndrome
註釋Abstract: Recent research and perspectives on the diagnosis and treatment of the binge-purge syndrome are examined in this volume, inspired as a result of a symposium on binge eating presented to the Association for the Advancement of Behavor Therapy. Chapter topics related to differential diagnosis of bulimia, anorexia nervosa, and obesity include 1) the definition and prevalence of bulimia (i.e. definitional criteria, sample populations, self-report instruments), 2) bulimia in anorexia nervosa, and 3) the obese binge eater-diagnosis, etiology, and clinical issues. Comprehensive descriptions are provided of several state of the art intervention for bulimia, including an experimental behavioral treatment program, a cognitive-behavioral treatment approach, and a clinically derived treatment model for the binge-purge syndrome. The relationship between restrictive dieting tendencies and fear of loss of control of eating as measured through self-report procedures and the occurence of binge eating is examined.
