註釋Purpose: Digital piracy, a form of unethical online consumer behavior, is a fairly prevalent phenomenon. Consumers who engage in such behaviors tend to employ various justifications for such actions. These neutralization techniques have been the focus of some research. Employing a bibliometric approach, the study aims to synthesize the extant research on consumer neutralization techniques in the context of digital piracy which has been published during the period 2000-2021.Methodology: A search of the Web of Science and Scopus databases using relevant advanced search keywords results in the retrieval of a total of 54 and 79 documents respectively. After screening, 118 papers are considered for the analysis. Biblioshiny software (using R-studio cloud) is used to categorize and evaluate the research articles.Findings: The results indicate an overall increase in the publication trend within the study period. The most relevant authors', institutional affiliations, citations, the top contributing journals', countries, most cited documents, and words are identified. Finally, the analysis presents the factorial map, citation network and countries' collaboration.Implications: The study highlights the approach and methods adopted to study the sensitive topic of neutralization techniques employed by consumers to justify an unethical behavior such as digital piracy. Directions for future research as well as recommendations on the research methods to be used are provided.Originality: Digital piracy has received considerable interest in recent years. However, there have been few attempts to synthesize the present knowledge in the area. This study fills this gap. It summarizes and assesses the available research on consumer neutralization techniques to justify unauthorized downloading of content.
