Kathyrn Lynn Boyd Miles
註釋Kathryn Lynn Boyd Miles was born on January 9, 1921, in Gutter, Texas. She was the youngest of two sisters. Her parents were both in education. Her father was a superintendant and her mother was a teacher. Miles became interested in flying at a young age when an airplane landed in a farmer's field near the town of Whitesboro, Texas. Her father arranged for her to take a ride in the plane. Miles graduated high school at sixteen and attended Decatur Baptist Junior College in Decatur, Texas. She later transferred to North Texas State Teachers College. During her senior year at North Texas State Teachers College, she enrolled in the Civilan Pilot Training Program and earned her private pilot's license. Miles fell in love with flying and returned home after graduation conflicted, as she wanted to fly and not teach. She took a job doing secretarial work for the FBI and moved to Washington, D.C. Miles was accepted into the WASP program on December 7, 1943 and graduated on June 27, 1943. She was stationed at Foster Field in Victoria, Texas where she flew target sleeves and instructed refresher courses for instructors from other countries, including instructors form Mexican, Cuban, and Chinese air forces. Following the deactivation of WASP, Miles was an aircraft communicator for CAA. She trained in Seattle, Washington and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. She met and married Kent Tillinghast, a pilot and head of the CAA tower control in Anchorage. Later in life, Miles did become a teacher, teaching multiple grade levels and eventually becoming a school counselor. Miles currently resides in Eugene, Oregon.
