Deposit Collections of Electronic Publications
註釋Almost every country maintains a national deposit collection of publications, most of which have a legal status through the provision of legal deposit regulations. These place a legal requirement on producers of publications to deposit their works in designated institutions on the grounds of ensuring the preservation, availability and recording of the published output. Only very few countries maintain a deposit for publications on a voluntary basis. Traditionaly, legal deposit has aplied to printed media, but the grounds for legal deposit of recorded knowledge in other media are no less cogent and many national libraries are seeking to encourage their governments to establish legal deposit for publications in the whole range of formats (film, microfilm, video recordings, electronic publications, multimedia publications etc.).
