註釋This document provides an overview of the telecommunications and computing industries in the Ottawa-Carleton Region, and highlights 19 key technology segments within these industries. For each segment, the document gives a general overview of the segment, identifies the key companies, products, and technologies, and describes the research and development areas. Five variables are used to analyze the importance of the technology segments. The segments are grouped into four main categories: technology building blocks, such as fibre optics, computer manufacturing, and telecommunications equipment; systems development and management, such as satellite systems, communications systems, visual information systems, and network service providers; systems and development tools; and applications (multimedia, corporate software).
