註釋Memoirs of a Jew who was born in 1906 in Warsaw and was one of the leaders of the Jewish children's welfare organization Centos. Describes the German invasion in September 1939, the anti-Jewish laws, and life in the ghetto, where Berman became the head of Centos. The organization provided aid and relief for children, as well as educational and cultural activities. Discusses, also, the role of political parties and youth movements in the ghetto. In early 1942 Berman was one of the founders of the Anti-Fascist Bloc, which was the first group in the ghetto to plan armed resistance and the basis for the Jewish Fighters' Organization. The memoirs end in September 1942, when Berman and his wife, Basia, escaped to work for the resistance on the "Aryan side".
