註釋
Greek myths are symbolic expressions of a higher level of knowledge. The characters and fantastic events of mythical tales are masks, behind which one must be able to recognize those truths that in the language of the rational mind could not be expressed.
The intent of myths is constantly to represent the transcendent dimension, and to show the stages of the cognitive path leading to that dimension.
Myths are not intended to convey knowledge relating to the psychological sphere; nor are they intended to appease by imagination questions about the human condition, its past and its future.
It is not to the expectations of individual consciousness that myths address. Myths provide symbols that allow one to transcend the patterns of conceptual thinking, giving access to the dimension that precedes and exceeds the sense of self.
