Behind the German Lines
註釋Will Close was among the thousands of British soldiers taken prisoner in the German offensive of March 1918. Will's personal memoir of his experience as a prisoner is enhanced by illustrations, maps and brief extracts from a 1916 diary, and a summary of the record of the Royal Sussex battalions in which Will served. This book affords a harrowing insight into, and reminder of the appalling ravages of war, but also of the indomitable capacity of many of these men who endureed such an experience with admirable good nature and often apparent lightheartedness.
