Stress, Burnout and Critical Incident Stress in Emergency Services
註釋Participation and working in the various fields of emergency services sometimes makes harrowing demands on an individual's emotional and psychological stability. It has become very evident that those individuals who respond to render or provide aid to victims may themselves become victims - stressed by exposure to traumatic events, such as death, loss and destruction as they work in the various emergency services roles. These providers become what is known as the "hidden victims". These symptoms have gone undetected and untreated. In some instances, personal careers have been gradually destroyed. It was and still is not uncommon for a distressed person in this field to eventually leave his job after health problems, personality changes, and marital discord may have been triggered by a significant emotional event or a cumulation of events.
