Treatment of Simulated Pharmaceutical Effluent by an Anaerobic Biofilter
註釋A 20 liter anaerobic biofilter packed with clay pellets was used to treat 2-ethylhexanoic acid (2-EHA), a component present in pharmaceutical effluents. The feed concentration was maintained at 8,200 mg/L, which is equivalent to a calculated COD of 20,000 mg/L. The anaerobic biofilter was operated for 425 days, at hydraulic retention times (HRTs) ranging from 0.83 to 20 days. The performance of the biofilter was optimal when it was operated at 1.1 day HRT, at an organic loading rate of 18.2 mg COD/L reactor volume/ day. The COD removal efficiency achieved was 92.8% and the biogas production rate averaged 128.7 L/day. The biogas was composed of 83% methane, 15.6% carbon dioxide and a negligible amount of nitrogen.
