註釋Begins with a brief description of the Fraser River basin, focusing mainly on local point sources of chlorinated hydrocarbons. Characteristics of specific contaminants such as polychlorinated biphenyls, dioxins, and furans are reviewed. Subsequently summarises results of findings of levels of chlorinated hydrocarbons found in the eggs of great blue herons, double-crested cormorants, pelagic cormorants, bald eagles, and ospreys, and in the liver of American mink and river otter. Discusses geographic differences and temporal trends in the data, and compares contaminant levels observed in the various indicator species. Tentative conclusions are drawn regarding the potential health risks that the observed levels of chlorinated hydrocarbons pose to the wildlife population. Concludes with recommendations for further action.
