Major-general Sir William Henry Sleeman KCB (8 August 1788 – 10 February 1856) was an English soldier and administrator in the British India, created by the English East India Company. He was successful in suppressing the criminal gangs known as Thuggee, which had been operating in the northern parts of South Asia for centuries.
