註釋
Since 1978, transport canada has been involved with the development of a rig for measuring truck tire rolling resistance (ttrr), bearing moment, fuel consumption and drive shaft torque. recently, this rig was used to determine the effect of tire tread wear and road surface texture on rolling resistance and to compare over-the-road values to conventional laboratory measurements. the objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of using the ttrr machine for monitoring road roughness. tests were developed in which hydraulic shakers were used to simulate the road profile input. specific test conditions and specifications were identified, along with the required instrumentation. results confirm the feasibility of monitoring road roughness during tire rolling resistance tests. unlike the response type systems commonly used to measure road roughness, the proposed method can provide fundamental information on the elevation profile of the road surface as seen by the tire. this information can be processed to yield a variety of indices for characterizing road roughness, including the international roughness index or a power spectral density function.
