Little Owl and the Barn Owl
註釋This is a book for children of ages 6 and seven years old with sensitively designed pictures in colour and done in a natural style. Little Owl and the Barn Owl is designed in two sections. The first section has a story written in poem form that lends itself to practice in reading for this age range. It can be used for speech practice, choral verse or for developing a tune to the words. It deals with a young owl with its mother learning how to hunt. The second section of the book is a factual part to be helpful in the child's introduction and stimulation of interest in nature and particularly in animals. There are the beginnings of scientific writing for the child. In this section as well there is the opportunity for the child to use a contents page, an index of specially selected words from the text as well as a glossary at the child's level. There is an activity page which presents a method to create a successful drawing of a barn owl that would encourage the child to attempt some artwork of this animal an hopefully of other animals. Further research is encouraged with the inclusion of suitable websites for more information that the child would be able access on the topic of the barn owl. (The use of the web with a responsible adult is stressed.)
