The driver history is intended to provide licensing agencies, judges and prosecutors with the information they need to make decisions about an individual's license or driving status. Accurate history records are especially critical for commercial drivers because large trucks and other commercial motor vehicles pose a unique safety risk to other vehicles. This report summarizes findings and recommendations for state legislatures on legal and administrative practices of the 50 states relating to driver records, diversion and deferral programs, and commercial drivers; it also summarized statutory research and administrative procedures.
