註釋BUCKSHOT PIE chronicles the struggles of a Pacific Northwest farm family through homesteading, The Great Depression and World War II. The book describes the early lives of five brothers and provides the reader with insight into the development of each one's character. Four of those brothers fought in World War II. The eldest brother survived the Battle of Bataan, the Bataan Death March, and 30 months of prison camp, but lost his battle aboard the Hokusen Maru hellship. Two brothers survived combat flights and crash landings. The youngest brother survived injury and Nazi imprisonment. Those surviving brothers lifted their mother's heart, but couldn't quell the pain and anguish at the loss of her eldest son.
