By the Banks of a Glass River
註釋"The history, By the Banks of a Glass river is about the people who came to work at the Pilkington float glass plant in Dandenong, Victoria when it was first built in 1972. The focus is on the people of this factory and how they enjoyed the riches of a monopoly of the flat glassmaking industry in Australia during the 1970-80's. Then into the 1990's and beyond that monopoly was destroyed by international competition causing life at the plant to become much more difficult with industrial changes, restructuring and retrenchments. The workforce has been cut by more than half and workpractices changed to meet market survival demands. The Pilkington business was finally sold off to a Japanese glassmaker in 2006 which promply sold off its Australian arm to CSR, the Queensland sugar company. That company has now embarked on a new era of flat glassmaking. The focus of this story is on the people and how they reacted to the business requirements, how they survived and how they look to the future."--Provided by publisher.
