Enclosing a copy of Peter Ibbetson " ... bound specially for you. It is the only one in half-white. The drawing which Mr. du Maurier gave me on the night of the Black dinner, is the original of the cut on the title page & cover. The margins have been marked and soiled while in the engraver's hands; but I did not trim them off, because they contain the artist's signature and preliminary pencil 'note'. His letter explains the significance of the drawing in connection with the story. With best wishes for a Merry Christmas."
