註釋In 1873, Dr. Christopher Dresser wrote, "A chair is a stool with a back-rest, and a stool is a board elevated from the ground by supports " (Russell, Garner & Read 1980, p. 9). This definition of the chair seems absurdly simplistic today, for over the last hundred years the chair has been subject to a succession of revolutionary transformations, uniquely emerging as an eloquent symbol of our highly complex society.
