This volume provides a clearly arranged overall description of European medieval numismatics, including the coinage of Byzantium and the Islamic regions. It also contains a discussion of basic numismatic principles and methodology, a history of coins and money as well as a comprehensive bibliography. As a Thesaurus Nummorum, a total of 1,500 coins from the fifth to the fifteenth centuries held in the collection of the Berlin Munzkabinett are described and reproduced in colour.
