註釋In October 2012, the British public was shocked by revelations that Sir James Savile - a well-known and well-loved television personality and charity fundraiser - had in fact been a prolific sex offender. As some of his offences were said to have taken place in connection with his work for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the BBC commissioned an investigation into the allegations and whether the BBC's culture and practices at the time enabled inappropriate sexual conduct to continue unchecked. This report presents the findings and conclusions of that investigation, which was carried out by Dame Janet Smith, a former Court of Appeal Judge. Following the publicity over Savile, allegations of sexual abuse were subsequently made against former radio and television presenter Stuart Hall. The allegations against Hall have also been investigated by this inquiry, but the findings have been published separately in a third volume.
