Masculinities in Robert Kirkman's Comic The Walking Dead
註釋This study provides a masculinities approach to three major characters in Robert Kirkman's popular post-apocalyptic comic, The Walking Dead. It closely examines the literary representation of men and argues that The Walking Dead enters into an important discussion about masculine ideals, behavior, and power. The comic series allows for the questioning of the traditional models of manhood and whether those behaviors are permanent or if there is a possibility for change. The analysis focuses on Negan, one of the series' most villainous characters, and his portrayal of extreme hegemonic masculinity; the adolescent Carl Grimes and his attempt to construct a new model of masculinity; and the central character Rick Grimes, who displays the limits of the traditional masculine ideal.
