註釋
Rhithropanopeus harrisii are small, estuarine crabs native to the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of North America. They have become an invasive species, establishing populations on the west coast of the United States, Europe, and Panama. They have also established reproducing populations in Texas freshwater reservoirs. In order to determine possible source populations and routes of colonization of Texas reservoir populations, mitochondrial DNA sequences were obtained from reservoirs and several estuaries along the Texas coast. There was minimal divergence among haplotypes, but significant differences in haplotype frequency were observed among some estuaries. Most reservoirs exhibited very similar haplotype frequencies and high haplotype diversity indicating that they were founded by numerous individuals or individuals from divergent source populations. The two divergent reservoirs had greatly reduced genetic diversity suggestive of founder effect. The differences among estuaries could prove useful in the future in narrowing down source population, particularly if multi-locus, nuclear genetic markers are used.
