註釋John Beard immigrated to Nantucket Island from Teingmouth, Devonshire, England, ca. 1710. Elihu B. Beard, a descendant, was born in Union County, Indiana, in 1825, the son of William and Rachel Pierson Beard. He migrated to California in 1850, tried mining for two years, and then settled in Stanislaus County. He married Ann Eliza Kennan in 1856. He died at Modesto, California, in 1901. His son, Thomas Kennan Beard (1857-1925) married Grace Ada Lewis in 1878. They had ten children. The family lived in Modesto, California, where they were community leaders.
