註釋
Daily entries and individual accounts recorded by a Hartford, Connecticut, merchant and ship's captain. Among the items he sold were buttons, thread, fabric, rum, molasses, hanks of mohair, handkerchiefs, spices, skillets, and nails. His customers hailed from Farmington and Simsbury as well as Hartford. Before going to sea in 1729 and 1731, he swore to the validity and accuracy of the figures in his ledger before justice of the peace Hezekiah Wyllys. An entry in the ledger dated 1741 indicates that Smith had died by that time.
