While the name of David Scott Mitchell is well known to users of the Mitchell Library in Sydney, that of his father Dr. James Mitchell [1792-1869] is not so well known. James was born in Fifeshire, Scotland and settled in Barragalong (now Burragorang), Camden Co., Australia in 1822. He was a doctor, financier and entrepreneur.
