An Economic and Social History of Gambling in Britain and the USA
註釋This text is a comparative history of gambling in Britain and the USA over the last 200 years. It examines the changes in the social and economic positions of gambling activities and businesses, from an environment of increasing hostility in the 19th century, through to one of overt expansion in modern times. The work considers the development of gambling media in the economy and society in Britain and the USA. There is particular consideration given to the interest of government in taxation and lotteries: the major gambling markets and commercial operators in bookmaking, pool betting and gaming; and the volume and nature of demand for gambling, and the related social problems.
