註釋
The Caribbean offers a huge variety of architectural styles which have been influenced by the many European settlers who colonised the islands, as well as the Africans, Amerindians and East Indians who were brought to the region as labourers. Some styles are unique to individual islands such as the chattel houses in Barbados or the urban townhouses in St Croix. Throughout the region there is significant evidence of a strong Georgian influence - government buildings, churches, libraries and other public buildings as well as the large plantation houses. In this book Suzanne Gordon and Anne Hersh take the reader on a guided tour of the architectural highlights of the Eastern Caribbean, from Anguilla to Trinidad. Illustrated with detailed photographs of buildings and architectural features and accompanied by maps and architectural plans, this is a knowledgeable and interesting account of the development and influences of construction and design in the Caribbean.
