註釋
In order to supplement available data on fractionation, an experimental study of factors for bubble tray fractionators was made on a 3-foot diameter 50-tray column using the isobutane-normal butane system. The effect of pressure on capacity was determined experimentally and was calculated by several methods for comparison. Experimental capacity was usually higher than calculated capacity. Flooding first occurred at the bottom of the test column. The liquid load was found to have little effect on the vapor handling capacity of the column. Experimental pressure drop data agreed closely with calculated data. The number of equilibrium steps per tray was found to increase near the ends of the column, where compositions approached per components. A determination of the effect of load on the number of equilibrium steps per tray indicated that a maximum number of equilibrium steps per tray was reached at about 75 per cent of flooding load. The optimum operating pressures for several commercial fractionating columns separating isobutane and normal butane were calculated from the experimental data.
