註釋Reverend Martin visited Mammoth Cave in 1851 and became quite fascinated with its history, beauty and grandeur. After finding that there was little information available to the public about the cave, he penned this guidebook and enlisted the help of some acquaintances to produce the illustrations. The guide provided information about the hotel, the owners/managers of the cave, the slave guides, the saltpetre works, cave formations and other objects of interest to be found on the tour routes.
