註釋
"During the 1960s, American clergy serving urban congregations, particularly in the South, began experiencing new dimensions of angst, challenge and opportunity. In the midst of vast social and political change, involving civil rights for African Americans, issues of women in leadership, conflict over the war in Vietnam, and (later) the full inclusion of the LGBTQ community in marriage and ordination, these urban clergy were also addressing shifts in social mores on many fronts. this caused several prominent priests in the Episcopal Church to consider the benefits of forming a collegial group of downtown rectors and deans to provide personal and professional support, and counsel for and with each other ... The group begain meeting twice a year, in the fall of 1977 ... Adapting the creative name "Downtown Episcopal Clergy of the New South" (DECONS), this fellowship of senior priests continues to represent the largest and, very often, the oldest, downtown Episcopal churches between Richmond, VA and Sarasota, FL, down the eastern seaboard, and as far west as Houston, Tulsa and San Antonio. The group's clergy serve churches that, in key respects, resemble countless other congregations in the country. But they also experience the realities of parish life through a distinctive lens: serving downtown churches in the south.
