Characterization of Human Blood and Saliva on the Basis of Sero-haemical Interaction with Lectins
註釋Lecting are soluble proteins, mostly containing convently bond carbohydrates, that bind specifically to saccharide moities in glyco-proteins and glyco-lipids. Because of this property and also due to the fact that the agglutination is selective, lectins are considered valuable as probes for identifying and mapping the sugars on the surface of cells. Also its ability to agglutinate erythrocytes and a great many cell types have contributed a lot to the understanding of chemical structure of ABO blood determinants in human. Extract of seeds, seed coats and petals from eighty five plant species were tested in this study where investigations were carried out with a view to characterizing human red blood cells (both adult and foetal) and saliva on the basis of their interaction with the seed extracts.
