註釋
This study examines landowner attitudes toward participating in an afforestation program for the purpose of carbon sequestration. Data were collected via a literature review and focus groups with private landowners in the Prairie Provinces. Results are presented with regard to perceived benefits, drawbacks, barriers, & challenges of an afforestation program. Issues discussed include potential benefits to the ecosystem, to personal income, & to agriculture; the opportunity cost & time commitment involved; carbon credit accounting; information needs; financial incentives; small- versus large-scale afforestation projects; policy tools that can encourage afforestation schemes; and key decision-making factors. Finally, the elements necessary for the success of such a program are outlined.
