Landowner Perspectives on Afforestation for Carbon Sequestration in Canada's Prairie Provinces
註釋This study examines landowner attitudes toward participating in an afforestation program for the purpose of carbon sequestration. Data were collected via a literature review and focus groups with private landowners in the Prairie Provinces. Results are presented with regard to perceived benefits, drawbacks, barriers, & challenges of an afforestation program. Issues discussed include potential benefits to the ecosystem, to personal income, & to agriculture; the opportunity cost & time commitment involved; carbon credit accounting; information needs; financial incentives; small- versus large-scale afforestation projects; policy tools that can encourage afforestation schemes; and key decision-making factors. Finally, the elements necessary for the success of such a program are outlined.
