Doctor Clayton Brown (1843-1943) of Polk County, NC, fought in both the Confederate and Union army during the Civil War. His journal for the year 1865 survives, and has been transcribed. This book contains, besides his journal, some biographical information on Doctor Clayton Brown. It is an interesting insight into the last year of the Civil War in western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee.
