Computer Aided Aerogenerator Analysis and Performance
註釋An iterative technique used in estimating axial and rotational inflow factors is also given, although results are not yet available. Calculations of the effect of turbulence on horizontal shaft turbines suggest that performance is generally decreased. The calculation method itself, while still in the preliminary stages, appears to be a reasonably reliable method of predicting fluctuating loads. An experimental study using a small-scale model of a straight-bladed vertical axis turbine is briefly outlined. Of the aerofoil sections tested, one with a cusp giving boundary layer control could provide an inexpensive, self-starting power source. A discussion following the paper largely concerns the comparative merits of straight and curved blades and explains the theory behind the cusped blade referred to.
