註釋Discusses the illegal immigration of thousands of Eastern European Jews through Yugoslavia to Palestine in 1938-48. After the Anschluss, many Austrian and German Jews fled to Yugoslavia because it was relatively easy to cross the border and most other countries refused to accept Jewish refugees. Yugoslav public opinion was against Jewish immigration and even in favor of setting economic and social limitations for Yugoslavian Jews. However, in summer 1938 the organizers of Aliyah B (illegal immigration to Palestine) chose to use Yugoslavian ports, despite government objections. With the German occupation in April 1941, 81,000 Jews were trapped in Yugoslavia, of whom 67,000 were killed. After the war, Yugoslavian ports were again used for illegal immigration to Palestine, enabling thousands of Jews to emigrate.
