Abstract: Every individual can control how he feels by what he eats; many disorders of the body which have come to be accepted as inevitable, such as urinary infections, migraineand ulcers, could be avoided by changing life style and eating habits. There are at least 40 substances which the body requires for normal functioning, but unfortunately trends in eating seem to be moving toward more convenient and less wholesome foods, and more calories and less bulk. Some of the concerns which need to be addressed are the methods of preserving foods which degrade their nutritional quality; the overuse of additives and the lack of knowledge about their long-term effects; and the theoretical and practical aspects of meat-eating in a hungry world. Ten steps to better eating provide a guideline for diet improvement and self-examination. Practical suggestions for putting the 10 steps into effect include menu planning, nutrition information, recommended meal patterns, new saladsand bag lunches, saving money, and slimming.
