Out of Slavery
註釋"Out of Slavery begins around 1770 when Ma Uwa and her daughter were brought to Suriname as slaves from Africa. Like so many others, they did not remain long on the plantations, but fled into the forest where they built themselves an independent existence. In his book, the author follows the history of Ma Uwa and her descendants. Her grandsons Broos and Kaliko became the leaders of a group of Maroons.
