The Oil in You
註釋THE OIL IN YOU This is a classic that unravels the path to meaningful life for every person. It is a story of a married couple who were God fearing and yet lived in abject poverty (1Kings 4:1-7). The husband was a prophet in Israel but died and left behind a huge debt. As a result of the debt, the creditors decided to take his two sons into slavery probably as their custom demanded at that time. The widow, who could not bear the worsening troubles of losing her husband to death and the two sons into slavery dared to go to Elisha, the man of God for a way out. The man of God inquired what she had in possession and the woman answered a pot of oil which she was going to prepare her last meal with. To the woman that small amount of oil was next to nothing, but to the man of God, that small amount of oil had the potency to change the woman's destiny. Elisha gave a prophetic direction to the woman to go and borrow more vessels from her neighbors and enter her closet and pour the oil into the empty vessels. This instruction might have sounded ridiculous, but when the woman did exactly as Elisha instructed, miraculously, the oil never ceased to flow until the last vessel was filled. She was asked to go and sell the oil, pay her debt and live on the rest. That is the poor widow became rich in oil business. The oil is used as a metaphor. It means different things to different people. But as diverse as it may mean to several people, like the oil in real life, the oil is precious; it is needed by people to make their life meaningful. It distinguishes you from other people. A man is as worth as the oil he offers to humanity. It could be ideas, a spiritual gift, anointing, talents, resources, and even people in our lives. The purpose of this book is to reveal to you that you are not poor and that you are blessed with resources as rich as oil to make life meaningful for yourself and society.
