Cost-benefit Analysis of the Onchoceriasis Control Program (OCP)
註釋Living Standards Measurement Study No. 106. There is little information on the effects of health care quality and availability and food prices on children's health. This study uses household, individual, and community-level data to analyze these impacts on anthropometric and survival outcomes in Ghana. The authors focus on children's height (by age and sex) and weight (by height). They also analyze the determinants of the probability of children's survival, an alternative indicator of health status. The results suggest the importance of public health policy in eliminating rural-urban disparities in health status and particularly in improving the health status of rural children and reducing their mortality rates. Increasing the provision of basic health services, such as adequate drug supplies, in rural areas will yield high social returns regarding improved children's health and survival probabilities.
