Betty McDonald Pre-Med Institute Complementary Communication Program (Pre-Med CCP)
註釋The Betty McDonald Complementary Communication Program (CCP) is an auxiliary program run under the Betty McDonald Pre-Med Institute at Southern Utah University (SUU). The objective of the CCP is to assist international students at SUU with their cross-cultural adaptation to the academic system of the U.S. The CCP focuses on pre-med students, addressing the medical school requirements they must meet and the challenges they will face. In the United States, international students must adapt to fundamentally new views of collectivism/individual-ism, hierarchies, power distances, and levels of context in communication, in addition to mastering a second language. Using a unique, hands-on curriculum of mentorship, tutoring, specialized language and communication training, cultural immersion activities and leadership building education, the CCP addresses these needs and works side-by-side with students to help them achieve their highest level of success in their studies. The CCP offers specialized resources such as life management guidance, designated housing and individually tailored collaboration that allow international students to compete on a level playing field with domestic students. Integrative communication theories, such as those formulated by Dr. Young Yun Kim and Dr. Geert Hofstede are utilized by the CCP to help identify ways in which international students can make the successful transition to a new culture.
