A Heritage and Its History
註釋Adapted from the novel by Ivy Compton-Burnett. The play opens with Julia Challoner's husband having just died, leaving his brother Edwin head of this late nineteenth-century household. Julia and her sons, Simon and Walter, are to remain living in the house. Edwin marries Rhoda Graham, a woman much younger than himself and a year later gives birth to a son who will inherit the estate from Edwin, however Simon reveals to his brother that it is he, not Edwin, who is the child's father. Simon marries Rhoda's younger sister, Fanny, and in time his daughter Naomi falls in love with her 'cousin' , Rhoda's son. Simon is torn between the demands of conscience and his love and pity for his son and daughter.
