Daniel Washington Murphy (1841-1921), son of Irish immigrant Hugh Murphy (1756-1842), was born in Ohio, served in the Civil War, moved to Jasper County, Iowa in 1866, and married Clarinda Holmes in 1870. Descendants lived in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Colorado, Utah and elsewhere. Some descendants became Mormons.
