In 1764, James Isham Gideon (1749-1832) and his brothers Frank and Roger arrived in Norfolk, Virginia from Cork, Ireland. After serving in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, James married Pattie Mills and settled in Wilkes County, North Carolina. The family later moved to Hawkins County, Tennessee. James Isham Gideon passed away in 1832.
