Which Type of Mathematics Homework is Beneficial in Student Achievement in Mathematics?
註釋The purpose of this metastudy was to discover the most successful forms of mathematics homework assignments that should be given to students in order to increase their chances of gaining higher achievement levels on standardized tests.. Through this metastudy, this researcher has found that homework can be beneficial for student achievement when given in specific amounts of time based on the grade level. This set time will allow for students to not only work on their academic achievement, but also give them the opportunity to retain that information and allow for breaks that researchers found to be helpful. This researcher has found that homework assignments can become most effective when students are given immediate, meaningful feedback by their teachers to help pinpoint exactly what needs to be focused on and how to move forward with higher level thinking. The use of technology can help with this immediate feedback when using specific mathematics programs designed for this support, as well as designed to differentiate the feedback being given. Without the understanding or training for teachers of how to properly give homework to students, it could jeopardize the purpose of homework, which is to help gain a strong understanding of each topic being taught. Teachers want students to be able to understand the concepts covered in homework assignments and not just the rote memorization of procedures. Teachers want students to be able to apply their knowledge to real world situations. Professional training and development needs to be provided to teachers to help strengthen their understanding of this topic and the best way to incorporate it into their daily teaching practices.
