Samuel Craig (1781-1839) married Nancy Sawyer, and moved from Tennessee to Lebanon, Indiana. Nancy was a granddaughter of John Houston, of Scottish lineage, who immigrated in 1735 from Ireland to Pennsylvania, and then moved to Rockbridge County, Virginia. John Sawyer Craig, son of Samuel and Nancy Sawyer Craig, married Sydney Neil Houston in 1841. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Tennessee, Indiana, Kansas, Texas and elsewhere. These descendants included Samuel Houston, who commanded the army that won the independence of Texas from Mexico, and who subsequently became the first president of Texas.
